This feature allows the rider to shift gears “up” by simply pressing the lever with their heel, instead of having to put their toes under the standard lever and lift it up. The ergonomic design is designed so that the lever extends beyond the end of the footrest (platform). This allows for comfortable use of the heel lever without reducing the space for the foot on the platform itself.
